My new little cast iron wood stove sitting snugly on its slate pad in front of the old cavenous fireplace. I may need its emergency heat this weekend if the monster storm forecast for my area brings down power lines. It yet lacks an appropriate mantle. The old one with its charming detail had to be removed by a mean crowbar because of the safety allowances. Fortunately, the long bookcases on either side were beyond the necessary parameters.
I've managed to walk the dogs some days (though my wee behind is dragging after two circuits of the block.) Being country bred, I always watch for spoor on these forays, amused by the bear-sized pug marks of my Shepherd, the delicate patterns of little cat feet and the erratic, rabbit-like prints of squirrels in the urban snow.
But somedays, when the wind hisses from the North, snakes of snow writhe across my path like the pale and vicious offspring of the Ice Dragon.
On such days I am glad of walls.
My computer is slow as cold molasses--a problem that probably not be rectified until after Christmas-- which is why I haven't been by. Still, I found on my alerts another wonderful review of Dark and Disorderly by Cholla on Long and Short Romance Reviews who calls it "an exciting and engaging read" and gave the story a 4 and 1/2 of 5.
I am so grateful to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to read and review D&D.

nice to see you again, b :)
hope the storm, destined to ravage southern ontario sweeps off to the west before it reaches you... saving you hours of cold and uncertainty!
tell sandy claws you'd like to try a MAC this time round, even if it costs a tad more to start... WORD is available for it, just make sure to get the 2011 version...
I love the new wood stove but I hope you aren't forced to use it by power outage. It sounds cold and wintry where you are - although it's not much better here!
And I hope you get a faster computer soon. (It doesn't have to be a Mac. My little Acer is keeping me perfectly happy!) It will be good to see you around a bit more again.
And congrats on your novel's continuing success!

fairy, my acer rips along well, also
i have macs as well... no comparison ;)
One other tech improvement besides computers I like a lot is thermal clothing they've made incredible improvements in. What a difference working or hiking around in Merino wool, wick away moisture socks rather than cotton sock, moisture sponges that end up wet and extremely chilling real quick. Stay warm, Bernita. :)
My brother ended up putting in one of these stoves just because the fireplace burned SO much wood.
My dad was fond of saying that wood warms you three times: cutting it, stacking it and burning it!
Woodstoves rock. I grew up in a big old farmhouse with one and it warmed my little behind many a winter. I also had one when I was married and it cranked out so much heat we never--seriously, never--had to turn on the baseboards.
Hope you don't get snowed under, and beware that wind chill as well.
A wood stove's nice to have when the ice dragon comes, for sure.
congratulations on the wonderful review points and on your daughter's book, too!
The wood stove looks lovely. I don't mind the cold weather—or I wouldn't—if I had a fireplace or a wood burning stove. But I don't, so double layers for me.
Top of the morning! You have a Shepherd? Oh!!! A place to come and talk (also WW, who has a Shepherd too?)
:-)
Mine, Bella, is 10 months old. Just started tracking training with her. Smart girl. And highly disorderly. She is a disorderly dog.
;-)
Hope you avoided that storm. ;-) Love the new stove.
Great reviews all around. ;-)
It's so good to see you post! I hear the storm was massive up your way, but don't know how bad you got it in your town. We just got a slew of rain that flooded and washed out roads. Places that never have overflow are lapping at the roads today. I almost had to sleep on the office floor yesterday due to road closures, but it turned out that the one road wasn't as bad as expected, although 2.5" of water running across it would have done itin eventually!
Take care!
Hope you weathered the storm well, Bernita.
I'd love to have a wood stove. Yours looks very solid!
Your stove looks wonderful!
Merry Christmas, Bernita. My very best wishes to you and to the ones you love.
xmas blessings to you and yours, m'dear :)
I hope it's not too late to wish you a Happy Christmas!
trawna ok? ;)
Ouch, we've had our own visits from the offspring of the Ice Dragon this winter. And we're not used to them so most of us don't have fireplaces like that! Hope the power lines are still staying up...
Those fireplaces are wonderful when the winter winds blow, making the room quite cosy.
I hope you're well, Bernita, and find good health and happiness this New Year.
As long as I'm already signed into blogger, I thought I'd stop by and say I've kept you in my thoughts as the winter winds blow.
Always nice to see a new post - brightens my mornings.
Miss you, Ric
grats on the latest granddaughter, b! :D
Just wanted to say hi. Hope all is well for you.
Hi again! Just joining in to wish you all the best. Hope you're well.
hope your med procedures go well, m'dear :D
My great-grandmother used to have a cast-iron stove, but her kids took it out of her house to get her something more updated and modern. The new one didn't ever look right in her home, but it did probably work better. Still, I always liked the way the old one looked.
Bernita, you brighten my days!

Bernita, as a newly-proud owner of a Kindle, I just ordered and read 'Dark and Disorderly'. I absolutely loved it - submitted a review to Amazon today.
How's that second book coming along?!
Your D&D novel was worth my while reading :D And congrats on your new iron wood stove. I know how you feel about the storms suddenly disrupting electric power lines >.< and it sure is not fun o.0
It's great to see that you still have an old cast iron stove. True it will come handy in case of an storm.. but wouldn't it burn too much of wood?
Good covered point, lots of people simply put something weired theories in front of public.
But it doesn't work i think because know one sure how it will going to happen
It looks like just coping ideas which someone has already written. I found even on
popular blogs guest bloggers bring same theories which I already know. I observed they
just try to spice up their article without knowing what really audience want to read.
