Evil Editor -- Finest Kind

Painting of the woman Tjepu,
Dynasty XVIII, reign of Amunhotep III
(c.1390-1353 B.C.)
painted plaster,
From Thebes.

I planned to post in some detail today about the wonderful and witty guy called Evil Editor.

EE dispensed genuine help on his blog for two years on queries, first pages and writerly subjects to his fly-by-night Minions -- of whom a couple or two have organized a surprise tribute celebration for EE here (NOTE: site goes live about 8:00 A.M.)-- with fun, games,( I'm told one contest is Concoct a Cocktail for EE. My entry would have been called The Witch's Tit - white rum and grenadine, served cold, with a maraschino cherry) prizes, and tongues-in-cheeks.

However.

Yesterday afternoon, my husband set out to a local conservation area on his annual hunting rite for the wiley pussy willow as a Spring gift for his bride.

When he didn't return in good time, I called police.

The canine unit found him, finally.
I wuvs cops.

He'd fallen while navigating a swamp, buggering his knees; had to crawl several hundred feet over bog, roots, and stones; and found, when he got to dry land -- minus considerable epidermis -- his legs wouldn't co-operate to take him out to his car and back to civilization.

After co-ordinating with two police forces, paramedics, and the arrival of members of the Pack, I dropped into to bed, briefly, sometime after four A.M.
I wuvs cops.

He's safe and he'd fine, though very stiff , very sore, and somewhat crippled.

I wuvs cops.

But I may not be around today.

Good lord, a scary experience for you and yours, and I'm relieved everyone apparently is still in one piece. Best wishes, and get some rest, all of you.

Omigod! Talk about heart in the throat!

Big, relieved sigh, hugs, glad to hear all is well. And what a sweet gesture for the bride! Hope both of you rest and recover.

(And PLEASE forgive me if I say that, as soon as I found he was okay, my mind immediately started thinking of what an interesting episode that would make within a manuscript...hanging head in shame...but I blame your storytelling ability...).

Haven't read the other comments yet, so I'm sure I'm echoing what they've said. I am so glad he's OK. Harrowing time. I have some experience with this angst, though not to the extent you suffered, and when it ends well, the exhaustion and relief can be overwhelming. We look forward to your return. Get some rest.

Reading Raine's comment, I have to add I thought, "life almost imitates fiction." A very uncomfortable feeling of deja vue! Again, best wishes for you both and speedy recovery!

I tried to find that Kipling quote but couldn't identify the right one. So here's my own.

I, the Watcher, make oath and say:
I could not come that darkling day.
I could not stop: my Duty's all.
Thus so to them I Cried the Call.

Three Wolf Cubs came with eyes alight,
Lahini's pride. Came in the Night,
Their muzzles raised to seize the Trail
Blood called to Blood. Blood's need, Blood's ail.

The Pack's paws strike for One at bay,
Strike as One may. Strike 'gainst that Day.
Four shadowed, silent Man-Cubs know
Their Pack: for It they strike the blow.

I, the Watcher, make oath to all:
I Struck when I did Cry the Call.

Out to find pussy willows for his bride...what a lovely man. My fingers are crossed that you're both feeling better.

Saipan Writer said...

Wow, Bernita. You've got a good husband who'll shop like that to get pussy willows for you.

And he's got a good wife, who knows how to summon help and help is needed.

Take care. EE's party is fun, but there'll be next year, if we're lucky.

I am so sorry to hear that - you must have been out of your mind with worry.

Glad he's safe now. Love to you both.

Bernita said...

Thank you!
Each and every one of you!
Though a "thank you" seems pale and inadequate in response to your kind expressions of concern, your good wishes.

I'll post an update tomorrow.
