Squee! Pimp! Fete!

Weirdly: A Collection of Strange Stories is released today.

Cocktail Reviews described Weirdly as:

An absolutely fantastic set of tales. I have nothing bad to say about any of them. Weirdly gave me everything it promised and more. Strange, odd, scary, whacky, creepy. Top notch writing. I’ll be recommending this to anyone and everyone. Stunning!

And had this to say about my Stone Child:

A haunting tale in some ways, Stone Child has many aspects that I admired. I loved the introduction of people/beings other than humans—plausible ones at that—and the whole ‘feel’ of the piece. Strong voice, very well written, I enjoyed this story a lot. Fabulous!

The reviewer rated the collection five champagne flutes strong.

Look, I know it's just a short story.

But it's the first real short story I ever wrote ( I don't count the various flashes in the pan.)

So bear with me while I raise a goblet of green apple wine.

After today I'll shut up about it. Maybe.

Absolutely no need to shut up about it. This is fabulous news and such a great review. And there's no such things as "just a short story." Enjoy your green apple wine and this moment.

Aw, Jaye, thank you!
I just don't want to be tiresome about what is, after all, a minor triumph.

Nothing minor about it. Short stories are hard to do well -- there's no room for error, no room for wandering around, no room to sweep anything under the rug or stuff it behind a chair. Everything has to fit and work and pull its weight. This is very cool, especially the great review, and you deserve to squee for a bit. :)

You deserve to celebrate. I'm very happy for you. I'm sure this is the first of many. I'm going to order a copy today.

Thank you, Angie.
That's kind.
True that every form has its discipline, but short stories are not rated as high as novels.

Michelle, shush!

Thank you, Charles.
~Hoping anxiously that you will enjoy it~

There's nothing easy about short stories, Bernita. I have a few in print myself. But to do this well with *your first*!!!! Wow - you have cause to slurp the champagne! Or the green apple wine - or for a real treat, a gin gimlet.

And the nice thing is that the reviewer didn't just skim the story, but obviously read it with attention and care.

And yes--short stories are a VERY difficult discipline.

Payday is Friday. ;-)

You know, I've been going back to it all day. I didn't realize that if you click "PDF," you'll be able to order it! A little confusing, LOL.

DH has banned me from buying any more books until January. But he's away for the day. Hehehehehe ...

Bernita said...

Thank you, Bunny, but I promise I won't slip in sly mentions in every single post from here on.

That's sweet, Natasha... but NO book is worth a credit card fight with your darling!

Relish in this. You deserve it.

James, bless you for that generous mention on your blog when you had your own achievement(s!) to shout about.

Rob, thank you. It may not be "professional" and cool to say so out loud, but I'm all quivery inside.

Are you kidding? Credit card fights can have their rewards ... and I get to read your story!
