Bully Boys

detail from The Assassination of St. Peter,
Giovanni Bellini, 15th century.
National Gallery, London.

Bully boys in blogland.
I hates them.

I despises them.

Another one showed up yesterday on a popular industry site.

They are always bravely anonymous or pseudonymous.

They always target - with intent to demean - women, particularly the younger, nicer sort.

Even Agent Kristin and Jenny Rappaport have been the subject of their attentions. Balked there, they go after female writers.

Drive-by BB shooters, snots with sling-shots - suitable to the size of their balls.
It's always a judgment call with bullies and other troll species. Some get worse and keep pushing, if they are ignored and not challenged. Others revel in the antagonism.

It would be nice to have a sort of 'zap' machine that would short out their computers...

LOL

I go feral, Sam, and want blood.

There probably is something like that along the line of illegal hacking, but we don't want to stoop to their level. But wishful thinking is allowed.

Bernita said...

Hacking would be underhanded.
I would like to push in their face, but seeing such attacks usually leaves me inarticulate with indignation.

Should be lined up against a wall and shot - without a blindfold.

I noticed that this one got hit with the delete button right between the eyes, Bailey.

Bernita is not the ideal person to get annoyed.

Bernita said...

I hold myself back, Ric.
~eviserate, eviserate~

Snot-nosed cowardly bastards - just lemme at 'em, Bernita. I have ways of making them shut up. Or at least whine.

Bernita said...

Hee, Kate!
Wish you'd been there.
I just get all hissy when I see someone targeted unfairly.

Does Blogger have a feature where a commenter can be blocked? If not they should.

Bernita said...

Don't know, Jaye.
The obnoxious commenter- and some of our choice replies - was deleted in this case.
Think if that happened a few times, they would either shape up or desist.

"...snots with sling-shots - suitable to the size of their balls."...LOL

I like that, makes me positive that we were separated at birth :-)

Sometimes I lament the fact that bullies, don't try to bully me. LOL..there's nothing I enjoy more in the morning, than ripping some jerk a new one! Mwhahaha!

Yea Jaye, commentors can be blocked with moderation. Miss Snark has employed that often!

Must confess my ignorance of this new kind of drive-by shooting. Will have to go looking for it...

The title of the painting interested me, though. They're usually referred to as "martydoms", rather than "assassinations"...

The demeaning adversarial bloggers can get wearying but are more than made up for by all the generous kind souls found here.

Bernita said...

Sister!
In this case it was only after several of us jumped and dumped, that the moderator exercised some oversight.

Raine, on double-checking the title, found that in full it's "The Assassination of St.Peter Martyr." So the concept is included.
This picture also represents the more casual wolves who attack pilgrimage and piety.

True, Pat, but writers are plagued with self-doubt and sometimes are more affected by spite than good wishes.
The veritas in vitriol sort of thing.

I've always detested bullies but in RL (once we've finished school) they're relatively rare. They seem to breed like rats in the ether though, haunting message boards and now, blogs.

They can be fun to toy with if you manage to corner one but alas, most are too cowardly to take the chance of being engaged.

Bernita said...

Nice to see you, Frank.
Yes, they seem to have migrated from message boards. Some are rabid.

I don't bother to get angry about them. I've been bullied all through my school time - there are worse things than a few online comments.

Wha' happened?

Man, I miss all the good stuff. I wanted to eviserate somebody! I just got my knife sharpened, too...

Man. Bummer.

(Heeeere, troll...)

Bernita said...

True, Gabriele, but, nevertheless, I still get miffed when I see someone I know baited.

~laughing~
That's cute, Sonya!

How come I always miss the fun?

Blog land is full of nice and decent people. It is also full of others that we don't want to encounter. If Blogger charged a fee, lots of them would vanish. But so would lots of nice and decent people.

Bernita said...

I believe the word "fucktard" was used, Natasha! So was "dipshit."
( All I managed was "jerk.")

Moderation and removal of the "anonymous" option has deflated a lot of them, Steve.
Sure, they come with the territory. Doesn't mean we have to let them run off with it.

Yeah, bernita, I see that kind of stuff and I usually jump in slinging assinine retorts, figuring if I take their venom, a more sensitive soul can sneak on out of the room.

Turns out, the delete button is actually far more effective.

I usually tell people where I live and invite them over for a beer and some dental work.

Bernita said...

Ah, Scott, you're the sort of muscle it's nice to have at one's back.
