Something Old, Something New

Some family and friends crossed a thousand miles to reach a church with Norman arches and iron-bound oaken doors to see my son and his bride be wed.

There was pale wine and creamy roses , joy and laughter, and a clear and certain love.

When he took his new wife in his arms for the wedding waltz, we were struck by deja vu, of a scene repeated over centuries: a gallant boy in scarlet regimentals, a lovely girl in an ivory gown.

May God bless.

( and God bless tear-proof mascara...)

Bernita Dear, print a color version of this post. Send it to them. It will hold a special place in their wedding book.

A sweet thought, Erik.
Thank you.

Congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy marriage. And I second Erik's suggestion. The sentence about the timelessness of the scene especially.

Oh, wow! That's beautiful. A wedding is such a strange and beautiful moment. It's an event that means so much, stands for a lifetime of daily life together, and yet feels so remote from that daily life. Sure is a wonderful moment, though. Makes us reflect on our own relationships, and be thankful and appreciate them again, too. I suppose that's why we have ceremonies!

Best, best, best wishes to them!

Bernita... I get teary just thinking about this happy moment for you and your family. I always wondered why people cried at weddings—until I had kids.
